Q. Why do you do this?

A. Why not? The kids saw a house with a synchronized music light show in 2021 and asked if we could do one too. I thought it would be a fun way to get into the holiday spirit. So, throughout 2022, I gradually accumulated the lights and props to make it happen. We’ve been doing it ever since!

Q. When is the show?

A. We run a smaller Halloween show in October. The Christmas show runs from the day after Thanksgiving until January 6.

Q. How many lights do you have?

A. In 2023, we had 8,487 pixel lights, which can be set to any color or brightness. We also had four color-changing flood lights as well.

Q. Doesn't this run up your electric bill?

A. Not really! All the lights are LED, and because of the synchronization to music, each light isn’t even on continuously. We also run the lights at about 20% of their maximum brightness, which is still pretty bright. The four floodlights, which also aren’t on continuously, are only 10 watts each. Using electric meters, we’ve found that the entire show only draws about 400 watts on average, the equivalent of 6 or 7 incandescent light bulbs!

Q. How many songs do you have?

A. We add songs throughout the year, even while the show runs. By the end of the 2023-2024 Christmas show, we had 37 songs synchronized to lights. 26 of those songs were in our regular rotation throughout the night. The remaining 11 were shorter, more eccentric, or songs that didn’t fit the Christmas theme, although many were still among our most popular!

Q. What are the most popular songs requested?

A. In 2023, the most-requested songs on the jukebox, in order of popularity, were:
  1. You’ll Be Back, from Hamilton
  2. Let it Go, from Frozen
  3. Candy Cane Lane
  4. Love Story, by Taylor Swift
  5. We Don’t Talk About Bruno, from Encanto
  6. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, by Lindsey Stirling
  7. Silent Night, by Chewbacca
  8. Christmas Tree Farm, by Taylor Swift
